October Count Every year during the weekends in October two parishioners, under the direction of Father Murphy, count the people in attendance at all Masses. The count includes adults and children present at a given Mass. The October Count is done in order to complete a report that must be submitted to the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. The overall attendance at Sunday Masses during October has decreased when compared to the same month in 2015. The 10:00 AM Mass remains the Mass with the highest attendance each week.
Election Results Congratulations to Amy Brennan, John Cooke, and Kim Gerace for being elected to the Parish Council. Amy and Kim are beginning their second term while John is newly elected. Congratulations also to Bob Gross and Sue Phelan who were appointed by Father Murphy to continue their work on the Parish Council. We extend our thanks to Mike Fohner for his two terms of service.
Coat Drive We would like to thank all those who contributed coats during our recent coat drive. As a result of your generosity 90 men’s coats, 124 women’s coats, 23 children’s coats and 25 scarves and gloves were collected. These items were split between the Delaware County Shelter at 63rd and Market Streets and the Homeless Shelter in Chester.
Joy of the Gospel We resumed our discussion of Pope Francis’ Joy of the Gospel by reviewing Chapter 4, Sections 1 and 2. In these two sections Pope Francis focuses on his passion for the poor. “We are reminded that whatever we do (or fail to do) for the least among us is what we do (or fail to do) to Christ himself.
We cannot preach the Gospel unless we preach the love of others at the same time.” As Christians we are called to show concern for the building of a better world. As a Church we need to speak out against social indignities. As Christians we are called to care for the vulnerable of the earth. “The dignity of each human person and the pursuit of the common good are concerns which ought to shape all economic policies.” This section challenges us to make a difference. We are to look beyond the physical being of the person for “God’s heart has a special place for the poor, so much so that he himself ‘became poor’” (2Cor 8:9).
